Wallace Breem: Law Librarian and Author

eagleI recently read a novel that historical fiction fans might enjoy. Eagle in the Snow by Wallace Breem tells the story of Maximus, a general in the last days of the Roman Empire who is given the seemingly impossible task of defending the Rhine from invasion by the Vandals and other German tribes with only one legion. First published in 1970 it is considered a classic of historical fiction and was reprinted a few years ago. It appears to be out of print again but used copies are readily available online.

In case you’re wondering why I’m featuring this book on the Widener Law Library blog, Wallace Breem was a law librarian at the Inner Temple Library in London. Non law librarians may not find his Bibliography of Commonwealth Law Reports very exciting but Eagle in the Snow is a good read.
