Harrisburg Campus Library Gets Makeover
Posted by admin on Aug 30, 2005
Students returned to find big changes this fall semester in the Harrisburg campus Legal Information Center.
Over the summer the circulation and reference area were completely remodeled. Those desks and the reserve library stacks were removed and a quiet, comfortable place to study replaced them. The room features soft lighting, plush seating and new carpeting.
A library staff person or student assistant maintains an information desk in the new seating area. Students can stop there to check out items and ask questions. New shelves on the back wall of the lounge area now house materials that were once in the reserve library stacks. Other changes include:
: CafÈ-style tables and chairs in the seating area outside the training lab.
: Two additional group study rooms.
: Upgrades to the teaching lab.
: Reference offices clustered into a suite at the far right end of the library.
: An additional wireless access point for speedy connections to online resources.
: New carpet and paint in the six-person computer lab.
Patricia Fox, acting co-director of the Legal Information Center, said the changes have been well-received.
ìIt has been an amazing transformation,î Fox said. ìThe space has gone from a staid, traditional circulation area to a warm welcoming area where students can drink some coffee, access the internet, study or relax. The reaction of the student body has been fantastic with everyone expressing their delight with the changes.î

Welcome to the Harrisburg Library Blogs

Welcome back to campus, hopefully all students had a good summer. The first thing that you probably noticed is that changes have been made around the library; the most obvious of which is the absence of the circulation counter. In its place are an information desk, open reserve collection, and lots of new comfy seating. The information desk will be staffed at all hours. For in-depth reference questions, students, faculty and other patrons will be referred to a reference librarian.
Due to the removal of the circulation counter, changes to the closed reserve collection have been made. Current law reviews can now be found shelved with the bound volumes. Open reserve consists of: a set of Purdonís, the Pennsylvania Code, Nutshells, Hornbooks, Uniform Laws Annotated, and Restatements of the Law. The closed reserve collection now houses: Examples and Explanations series, Understand the Law series, videos, CDs, and course reserve materials

All students who have transferred from another law school (including from Widenerís Delaware campus), must contact Bonnie Lerner, Electronic Resources Librarian to obtain new Westlaw and Lexis IDs.
This also holds true for a student whose name or graduation date has changed since last year. Contact Bonnie Lerner to have your Lexis and Westlaw IDs updated or you could lose access to these important research tools.
She can be reached in her office at (717) 541-3944 or email bllerner@mail.widener.edu
