President Bush has nominated
Samuel A. Alito, Jr. as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Judge Alito currently serves as a judge on the United States Court of
Appeals for the 3rd Circuit. The University of Michigan Law Library has
created a website that contains links to his writings as well as biographical information.

Harriet Miers Withdraws Nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court

White House Counsel, Harriet Miers, has withdrawn herself from
consideration for the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms. Miers was nominated to
replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. Sentate hearings on the
nomination were expected to begin November 7th. Justice O’Connor has
said that she will remain on the U.S. Supreme Court until her
replacement is confirmed.
Publisher’s Group Sues Google Over Library Project

The Association of American Publishers has sued Google, Inc. in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York over Google’s Library Print Project
which aims to scan the contents of several top research libraries in
the country. The suit comes on the heels of a class action suit filed
by the Authors Guild over the same project.

the Widener Law Library Brown Bag Book Club. We will meet in the Special
Collections room of the Delaware Campus Library.
We will be discussing RIVER TOWN: TWO YEARS ON THE YANGTZE by Peter Hessler.

This book is an account of the author’s experiences and observations on
two years in the Peace Corps in a small town on the Yangtze river. The
town was located in an area which was scheduled to be flooded in the
construction of the Three Gorges Dam.

President Bush has nominated Harriet Miers to serve as
Assoiciate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. The University of
Michigan Law Library has again created a website containing
biographical information about the nominee. The Michigan site
provides information about her career as a lawyer including links to
cases she worked on as counsel and articles she has written for various
bar journals.
